Michael F. Salamone, PhD

I am an Associate Professor of Political Science in the School of Politics, Philosophy, and Public Affairs at Washington State University. I currently serve as the School's Director of Graduate Studies.

My research centers on the politics of the American judiciary. I am especially interested in how courts shape and are shaped by external political forces. Much of my work examines media coverage of and public reaction to U.S. Supreme Court decisions. My book, Perceptions of a Polarized Court: How Division among Justices Shapes the Supreme Court's Public Image, is available from Temple University Press. 

I teach undergraduate and graduate courses on the judicial process, American government, constitutional law, and research methods. 

I earned my PhD in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley in 2011. Prior to that, I received my BA from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, where I majored in political science and economics.
